I had the opportunity to create a short series of totems for a novel I co-authored last year, primarily to create the media elements of the iBook version of the story. It was a great chance to flex my sculpting skills and I’d forgotten just how much I enjoy creating in 3D.
Created totem, unfinished.
There was needed 4 main doorways, of which this was one. Each doorway represented a tribal theme of the elements.
After they were sculpted, each one had to be painted by hand.
Finished totem after painted.
This image shows 2 of the sub-doorways and 1 main doorway (centre).
Lineup of painted totems.
Totems on the easel as I was creating them. More details on the progression of them can be found in my blog area of the website.
Ended up making an extra totem, as I needed one that I could grow crystals on. It actually ended up looking fabulous with the crystals!
View of the totems inside the cavern.
Just a capture of the final overall cavern that was the finished piece for filming.
